Eco-Tourism Project Coordinator

This roles is partly funded by the Science Horizons Internship Program.  Candidates MUST be eligible to work in Canada, be graduates of a post-secondary education program and be under 30 years of age when the internship begins.  Candidates will have their information validated by the program office before approval for hiring is granted.

Prairie Bee Meadery is Saskatchewan’s premiere meadery.  We are artisans who craft local premium honey into international award-winning wines.  As a small, female led, rural business our farm and winery is located 20km west of Moose Jaw and we are looking for good people.

We are implementing a project to repurpose 2-acres of land as a pollinator friendly area seeded with native wildflowers.  This meadow will be used as the basis for a new eco-tourism attraction called the Pollinator Pathway.  This attraction is being developed in partnership with the Economusee Network Society (ENS) Artisan-At-Work program, to create a high-quality family-friendly tourism attraction focusing on the core of our craft – bees & beekeeping. The project will provide a unique agri-value experience that include self-guided tours with interactive app, hosted & audio tours (English & French), craft activities & educational programming for schools.

We are looking for an intern to take on the role of Eco Project Coordinator to take on all activities related to planning, execution, visitor hosting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the project.

The internship will involve:

  1. Site planning for the space including irrigation, seeding, pathway, layout of points of interest (April/May 2024).
  2. Execution of the plan – site clean-up, seeding, construction of irrigation system, pathway and planting of bushes (May 2024)
  3. Stewardship of the Plan – Execute the day-to-day activities to ensure the area is maintained and the visitor experience is top quality (May-October 2024)
  4. Daily Execution of Activities to Support Visitor Activities including;
    1. Tour Coordination/Event Hosting Activities – Host educational groups
    2. Tour Guide
    3. Marketing Content Generation – Using guest experiences to promote the activities.
    4. Daily site maintenance and prep activities
    5. Generate new content for Scavenger Hunt & Audio Tour App.
  5. Follow Up Plan – Generate a site plan and feasibility study for phase 2 – installation of on-site solar, electric irrigation system and freezer system. (Sept/Oct 2024)
  6. Close Out – Recommendations for Summer 2025 – new attractions, updated design, improvements, lessons learned from Year 1 (Oct 2024)

This is a full time role for 6 months (May to October) and you will work Wednesday-Sunday – 9am-5pm.

During the internship you will be a planner, a learner, a communicator, a groundskeeper, a tour guide, a technology developer, a teacher, a marketer, and most of all you will be enthusiastic, ready to pitch in with help for the job at hand.
